Help my head's stuck! | Is Wal Mart really evil, or is this standard practice? |
I just read this article about the healthcare costs in regards to the woman who was in an accident which left her disabled.
http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/03/18/wal-mart-prevails-in-case-to-recover-health-costs/?mod=googlenews_wsj
Is this standard, meaning is the media just making a big deal out of this and all employers would do this, or do you think Wal Mart is evil in this? |

I think walmart is pure corporate evil.
They have a cash flow larger than most 3rd world countries, PLUS they are China's single largest customer.
They have scammed their workers for years over unions, and it is a slap in the face of the American people and the American dream when the second or third wealthiest corporation in the US attacks one of its workers over such B/S...regardless of what the medical bills.
Are you aware that walmart carries a 1M accidental death insurance policy on each of its "associates"?
This is the epitome of corporate greed, Above and beyond that of the oil industry insiders! |

Wal Mart is the classic bottom line driven and the hell with the local economy type of management that gives corporate America a bad name. Over the past ten years, the stock of the place is nothing but a dumping ground of cheap good made from China. While what they are doing is not illegal, their ethics is going to eventually catch up with them. I only shop there as a last resort. To me, the magic ran out when thney started to sign exclusive deals with some PRC manufacturing outfits. |

Although the clause in the healthcare contract makes this legal, I think this is really repugnant. |

Walmart is evil, but the real evil ones in this case were her lawyers who didn't do a thorough job. By now, everyone knows walmart does tricky things to their employees. Her lawyers should have read over her policy. Then made their lawsuit against the trucking company accordingly.
Walmart should just tell her to keep the money, bet they won't though. |

Here is an excerpt of the applicable law:"... right to recover medical expenses for accident-related care if a worker also collects damages in an injury suit. .."
Apparently, the family of this unfortunate woman saw 'dollar signs' and gave half of the settlement away to greedy lawyers leaving only about 200 kilobux to take care of the injured.
There is nothing evil about Walmart's action. The company is only attempting to keep healthcare costs down so that the employees can afford it. |
