No don't pay for e-mail. Just make sure you save it to a file where you know where it is. Before you hit save change the name of the file so that you can find it.

when you save the email, look at the top bar of the screen and see where it is going.
normally files are saved to my documents and pictures are saved to my pictures.
you can click an icon on the left (my computer) and select desktop, save and see if you see it there.
it does not matter if you have a free or paid for email service.

It is with Yahoo. I tried to avoid getting Mail Plus for months but realized it has some cool advantages and you only pay for it once a year. I especially like the Address Guard feature.
