Circuit City is considering a plan to close at least 150 stores and cut thousands of jobs as an alternative to filing for bankruptcy-court protection, people familiar with the company told The Wall Street Journal this week.
Analysts have said vendor support of the retailer is key to its survival, saying withdrawal of credit or tightening of terms could quickly snowball Circuit City's financial problems. Credit agency Bernard Sands earlier this month ceased offering a credit recommendation on shipments to Circuit City in light of ongoing losses.
If Circuit City were to file for bankruptcy, it would be the largest retailer to enter bankruptcy protection in several years. The 59-year-old company employs about 45,000 people. Last year, it posted sales of $11.74 billion.

They are definitely going to be around until after Christmas. Beyond that it is anybody's guess.
If it wasn't for the sad state of the economy I would say that even if the go into bankruptcy they could recover and emerge from bankruptcy as a viable business. The problem is that we are in a recession and since they are not selling necessities there is a good chance they may not be here next year.
Bear in mind this is nothing but my opinion
