Is it Wrong To Pay Our Tax Dollars to Help Out The Banks and Automakers ... ?
It's just a question so don't bite my head off. Please. I just have a problem with the idea that businessman do things that benefit them like high bank fees and penalties but aren't smart enough to run their businesses efficiently enough to deal with a changing economy that most people saw coming ahead of time.

I've been with Citibank for more than 10 years. I have accounts with several other banks also. I'm not scared ... yet. I'm just concerned that a business can make so much money and somehow not have enough of it's own profits to bail itself out when the times get tough.

What did they do with all the money they made when they were profitable?

Hidden in their Pockets ... And now they want into my pockets. And yours. And they're going to get there.

There's something terribly wrong with this.

Tell me how you feel. Thumbs up to all answers. If you get a thumbs down it wasn't me. Thanks!

Great answers! Keep em' coming. Star if you like. Thanks!

It is wrong, especially when the taxpayers have no say in whether or not the bailout gets done, it is our money after all so you'd think we would have some say in how it's spent. These companies have been incompetently run and there is no reason to think that will change if they get a handout from the government.

Yes, it's wrong. It should be criminal. These companies pay out millions and millions to executives, to lobbyists, etc. The free market cannot work as it should if the government helps them out. Let them cut out the waste.

I think it is wrong that the auto companies have to go through this dog and pony show with Congress and show responsibility, yet the banks just show up with their hands out and are given a blank check to do what they want with our money. They spend it on junkets and parties (like AIG) instead of righting the ship like they are supposed to use it for. Citibank has showed up twice for a handout already, given close to $50 billion and no one asks to see what they have done with the money? In the auto companies case, they have streamlined and restructured, but what is holding them down is the UAW. You get laid off from an auto job you still collect 98% of your pay. GM also got hit when they spun off their parts suppliers (Delphi) as they were held liable for the retiree pensions and health care as well. That is another point that is killing them that the union will not budge on, retiree's still have full medical coverage that the big 3 have to pay for. That alone is a huge financial drain when no cars are selling.

Why would I pay millionaires millions of dollars? These CEO's are still getting paid. So hell know. Would they pay me If my business failed.

The thing that makes my blood boil is how businesses (e.g. shell and other petrol company's) make unprecedented profits and still cut thousands of jobs. They are the biggest crooks of all!

It the "fat-cat" directors which eat up much of businesses wealth and take from the guy's who are working hard to get food on the plate for his family, but hey the government doesn't care they just tax the super-rich a higher percentage.

Bonuses/party's for banks which the taxpayer has to cough up now and even more so by 2011 when national insurance premiums will rise again, its a joke! If the government wants to get it right now, I think they should nationalize all banks in the UK so this mistake will never happen again.

In conclusion we must realize that its a dog-eat-dog world out there and be very careful who you trust with your money.

WRONG... called personal responsibility. Anyone who is bailed out by a parent or friend usually do not learn their lessons. I am only wondering if Citibank, AIG, etc... will learn.

Regardless, we are raising a society of people who don't know how to be responsible.
