Is it good that asda's?
do you think it is good that asda has been taken over by wall mart or do you think it has gone down hill ?

Asda was taken over in 1999, this isn't exactly a recent development.

The takeover by Wal Mart was good news because Asda is now part of the biggest retail company in the world and can get massive discounts from suppliers. That means that it can (for example) sell a pair of jeans for £4. There is no way it would be able to do offer such low prices if it was still independent. Asda can get the lowest possible prices from suppliers because Wal Mart orders more quantity than anyone else.

It is probably true that the management was better when it was independent, the people put in by Wal Mart have let the shops go downhill because they are not as talanted. If Wal Mart wants to challenge Tesco and avoid being overtaken by Sainsbury it has to put better people in charge at Asda.

I think it has gone downhill a wee bit. They seem to have made the aisles closer together to get more stock in.

Cannot say it has improved in any way and I find the aisles are so close you cannot pass anyone else with a trolley so now I shop elsewhere. They seem more interested to squashing so much in with no thought for the customers.

I'm just hoping that Asda becomes like Wal-Mart, you cant buy a beer in a Wal-Mart but you can buy guns - wierd eh?

grumpcookie
cant say i,ve noticed a difference myself.

Asda and Walmart both had a bad reputation for scr*wing their suppliers, bad labour relations with their employees, aggressive competition tactics, poor environmental record. So from their point of view, they are perfect partners ;-)

I haven't seen any change. The changes happen behind the scenes. And more and more smaller local shops and businesses are forced to close because they can't compete fairly. Four of the six shops in my street have closed since Asda opened 1 mile away. As you can guess, I don't think it benefits any of us (apart from Asda shareholders) for the mega-supermarkets to get even bigger.

Customer service has improved, but aisles too close together. I go at night because during the day it's like wacky races between prams and trolleys and my sanity gets brought into question, and
there was sometimes the possibility of a night in the cells if I lost it completely.
