In Human Resource Management, all pertinent data regarding employees are confidential, like the personal file of each and every employee. Human Resource practitioners are very careful on this because If the information given out has resulted to damage or harm on the person then they can be sued for damages. This is the reason why only a handful of people can access employees personal files. Home address is one of the data that is recorded in the Personal File. |

Of course not! Anyone who knows your full name can find your address in the phone book (or on-line if your number is "unlisted")...it also takes less than ten minutes to find your SS#, your credit & job history, and all kinds of personal info if someone wants to!
If you honestly believe you have any privacy, you are only fooling yourself!
(And it has ever been thus....the internets simply make it faster & cheaper!) |

While you address should not be given to other companies, to share it internally isn't against the law. |

Home addresses are not necessarily a protected item.
If your phone number is listed, I could find your home address in about 2 seconds. And if it is not listed, for $40 I can get the address you live at now, and your last address and possibly even your last few jobs using a people search company on the internet.
The real answer to this question is, it depends. Do you have an employee manual? If yes, I bet it is covered in there.
Privacy laws dictate that if you want information kept private, YOU must notify the company in writing annually.
Why/how is your info being given out? I would guess it is through an employee directory and many companies publish these.
Good luck and if you don't like it, notify HR in writing that the next time the directory is published you do not want your address listed. |

It is absolutely against the law for your company to give out any information regarding your home address, phone number, etc. to other employees without your permission. They will have all that information and it will be stored in a database so the issue that is more beyond their control is that since HR, Finance, etc. have mailing to do there are times when an employee will have to access your information. If they get your address and contact you directly then you should report them. |
