Is it just me or is customer service REALLY SUCKING!!!!?
Im a mgr at a retail business and i always make it a point to greet and thank my customers....however, most of the retail
businesses i go to, have really bad customer service. I dont expect to be butt kissed but at least a hello from the cashier when im checking out. Sometimes i barely get a glance and its a miracle when someone actually smiles. Please let me know im not the only one that feels this way.

Omg! I thought i was the only one who'd experienced this kind stuff!!! I worked 4 years in retails and I was always very nice to my customers. I would have been in deep trouble if i treated them different and it's not my style anyway. Nowadays, people work in retail just for the sake of having a JOB but not because they are "people persons".

no it's true... it's like we're all becoming overworked, unemotional robots. I'm a little scared to think how it will become in a couple years...

ITS NOT JUST YOU!!!!!

Brandy
no your not, but other businesses may not have the same atmosphere as yours does..for instance where i worked I always noticed that the people where always short handed and underpaid and i'm sure if the people who owned it would give them enough pay and help...Things would be a lot better

yes i feel this way as well. i was a cashier and a telephone customer service rep and i always tried to be nice to people and treat them with respect. i even had one of my customers comment on how nice i was once, that made my day! however, i feel like people just don't care anymore. i went to walmart the other day and my cashier did not say one word to me to whole time, and i had a 150 dollar bill, so it took a while to ring up.

if you're a manager for a retail business then you should already know that the associates and salespersons are reflective of their own superiors and attitudes. it's the corporations and execs.. everyone's down with the economy slump and everyone's gloomy. though i can't blame it on that specifically, because CS has indeed been in the crapper long before that happened. I'd say that most execs are so involved in making money / profit that they no longer care to remind the people under them to smile and befriend customers...
