Is it legal to sell a product over its marked price?
in my school cafeteria (it is its own private business with no affiliation with my school) sells arizona iced teas (the large cans) for $1.50 but the price is marked on the bottle as $.99
i heard it was ILLEGAL to sell it over the price if it is marked on the bottle.
is this true?
me and my friends dislike the cafeteria because it has a monopoly over the school and takes complete advantage of this fact and we must put and end to them. Additional Details i understand profit stuff but a buddy of mine walked into a liquor and the person working their said if the bottle is marked for a certain price, it is illegal to sell it for more.
the $.99 is NOT the wholesale price, but the price it must be sold to the public
the wholesale price is cheaper than the .99
No it's not illegal to sell a product for more, You buy it from the manufacturer then set your price to it, that's how it works, all businesses mark up... that computer that your using probably was actually $300.00- 500.00 cheaper from the manufacturer... see what I mean?

Unfortunately they are ripping you off and its perfectly legal. You should go buy your own supply and stand outside the cafeteria and sell it for a nickle or two less then what they sell it for.

Yes. When you buy something, it becomes YOURS. If you can get someone to buy it for twice what YOU pay...Oh, well.
An idea. Go to your local thrift store (dollar General, Family Dollar, etc.) and buy your drinks and then sell them out of a friends trunk and cooler and undercut the school!!
googie
Have your parents take the problem up in the PTA meetings and see if there are others who have the same opinion. As a private business, they must have a contract with the BOE or the school in which case, when will it expire ? See if it is biddable.
americanfreeman
It is absolutely legal. That price is the SUGGESTED price.
