~~As long as you went into the site on your own (not by clicking on a link like though an email solicitation, and the page you are entering the information onto is secured (you will know this by either seeing https (must have the s on the end) on the address bar or by seeing a padlock on the bottom right hand corner of your screen), then you are safe. Without those guarantees, you are sending it out for anyone to capture!~~ |

It's safe as long as you got to the site directly and not through your email. And make sure that there's a https:// by the website and a padlock. |

i think so. look for an icon of a lock at the bottom of the computer screen. mostly on the right. if it's there that mean that the page is secure and safe. |

Yeah because these days, most applications are read from online anyway.
Just make sure that you have a good spyware and virus protection on your computer.
Or you could use a different computer with lots of security like a library's.
I usually applied at the library since my spyware wasn't the best. |

does it have https in the beginning of the address meaning it's secure?
If not, I wouldn't. |

Make sure the Web site can secure your private information using VeriSign or another SSL Certificate. Look for the logo at the bottom, in the status bar or privacy / security notice.
I wouldn't recommend it on a public computer (such as the library, school lab, etc.) |

yes provided you are going to them online. They are not emailing or calling you. I had a TV preacher call me wanted me to donate using my credit card. Bad idea....who knows who was calling....get my drift? |

Do what you will but a social security number has many uses and to expose it on line is not a good idea. Why not make applications in person through the Personnel Dept.? If I were hiring in-store personnel, they would be neat, smart, outgoing, as well as customer oriented. Only then would they need to divulge their SS number. |

for places like that, no. just leave that part blank. if you are hired you can give them your social. good luck with your job search! |

If the Little lock shows at the bottom right of your screen and the url is https that shows you are on a secure site, and doing it on your home computer is also a good idea to get away from key loggers sometimes found on public computer's. |

well if the address has https at the start that means its secure page but if its only http i wouldnt do it |

It may be prudent to keep you ssn to yourself unless you are actually hired, at which point your employer will need it for tax purposes. Nobody has to know your ssn unless it is for tax purposes. Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to give it to the DMV either. |
