It's not official, but the future looks grim for Tower Records because four major record companies have decided to freeze credit lines and cut CD shipments due to Tower's failure to pay off debt.
Tower Records, like many "bricks-and-mortar" music retailers, has been hit hard by the Internet's popularity over the past ten years. These days, you can download mp3s and purchase CDs from online retailers (and many bands, including most underground/local/indie groups, also sell directly from their websites, which is cheaper than going through an intermediary). |

JOHN PAUL DENSMORE'S "RIDERS ON THE STORM" THE
STORY OF THE DOORS. IT WAS THE ENTIRE BOOK, PLUS
ALL THE SONGS AS WELL. SO IF TOWER CLOSES, IT IS
THEIR FAULT FOR NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO CUSTOMER
