Is it true that for every £7 spent in the U.K. £1 goes to Tesco?

Yes as others have said - more worringly if Tesco's continue to grow up to Christmas as they have to October Tesco's in the UK will be bigger in marketshare than Asda and Sainsbury's combined... that's power...

At the start of 2005, tesco took £1 out of every £8 spent in British Shops

Scilly question: Is there a Tresco Tesco?

yes it is true.

Infact tescos control approx 37% of the food industry in the UK.
There power meant that they could not buy Safeway as it would mean that would have a monoply power over the market.

Ludo
it doesn't go to Tesco. it is spent at Tesco.

rja_agent
apparently so!!

I heard that it was £1 in every £8 goes to tescos.

Its got to be true though. i mean, theres a tesco's everywhere these days and they sell almost everything! Any time you go, day or night, you have to que at the petrol station or in the store..... they must be raking it in!

Presea
I heard that every second, Tesco are making £60 profit!

Yeah I'm sure of it

scrambulls
I didn't realise they were that big!
What is even more horrifying is that if you work for your living on average the government (UK) is taking more than 50% of it in taxes many of which are hidden!
e.g. fuel carries import taxes, excise duties, plus the cut from the wages of the workers involved in it's manufacture and distribution.
My current guess would be over 70P a litre!

i hope not - i don't even shop in tesco's!!
