Ms. Curious | Is it true, the bigger the company, the better the job benefits? Many opinions please? |
Well, I didn't get the job with the company that had 100,000 employees.. it was a huge corporation and the benefits were crazy good, and now every other company seems somewhat subpar to me. Next week I'll be receiving an offer from a company who has 18,000 employees worldwide, 5000 of that in the U.S. My friend says any company with over roughly 5000 employees is considered a large corporation and the benefits won't vary to much from company to company in regards to its number of employees. What do you think? Thx!! Additional Details This is a distribution company. So the number of employees are representatives, vp's, etc, not like Walmart's 1.8 million employees which includes many many lower level hourly employees. I can't imagine them having decent benefits as compared to a sales executive, but I may be wrong? |

I'm not sure what you mean my ' good benefits'. Everyone's definition of that is different. Someone people think that the more an employer pays for any benefits offered, those are good benefits. Some consider other things like vision insurance or an on site gym or child care ' good benefits'. I would look for what medical and dental insurances are offered and how much money comes out of your pocket to pay for them because you're going to be using those the most. The second thing I'd look for is if they have a pension or a 401(k) savings plan and put away as much $ as you can. Save atleast the amount you would need to take advantage of any matching contribution a company would offer. Good luck with the new job. |

That's typically true, but not always. Most large companies provide good benefits. Most government organizations (especially federal and state) provide good benefits. Many small companies don't provide benefits at all. However, you will find exceptions. |

Yes, I think it's true... 'cause big companies always hav more benefits (in a way or another) than medium and little companies... 'cause big companies have more money.....and pays more money.... |

It's so hard to generalize about the quality of benefits based on size. My boyfriend's company only has about 20 employees, but they offer health and dental, 401(k), etc. A larger company may seem more secure, like there would be less of a chance that you would suddenly lose your benefits, but I'll bet that's what everybody thought at Enron. Start-ups may even offer stock options, which could be worth millions or nothing! So I would say, judge each company on a case by case basis. |

This is necessarily true. I worked for an employer with roughly 900 employees. Our benefits were pretty good (not the best but not the worse) We offered medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD, LTD Life Insurance as well as additional voluntary life insurance and AFLAC coverages. The employer was bought out by a much larger company. Although they offered medical, dental, vision 401k and life insurance, the coverage was not as good and it cost the employee's (that were given positions) more per check.
I don't think company size has as much to do with benefits as much as management's mentality towards the benefits. |

Think walmart, it's a conglomerate and while the benifits are good you'd still get fired so they don't have to give you those benifits |
