Is my company closing?
We have a lot of signs that we may be closing but no official word yet. Here are some of the signs:
The people who have quit have not been replaced.
Conference calls with our area managers about our low sales at least once a week, when last year we only heard from them once a month.
High shrinkage results at our physical inventory that took place in August/07.
Sales are lower than last year's sales but not by a whole lot.
At our conference calls, our area managers always say positive things and makes it sound like we're not closing. Is this just a technique they're using to make us stay and not start looking for new jobs??? I'm very concerned and want to know from a legal standpoint, how many days or months in advance must they inform us of a store closing. Our office only has 5 people working here. Any ideas?
Sounds like "The Office". With only 5 people, they don't have to give you any notice. Sounds like you are part of a larger organization, so I wouldn't be worried about getting screwed out of pay or accrued vacation. Do they offer severance pay?

Start hitting monster.com baby, your office is going to the history books.

No one has to inform you of anything. You may come to work one day and find a sign saying closed on the door.
If you are convinced the end is near, get the h--- out before you are forced to do it. This way, you at least have an income, while looking elsewhere.

sounds like if they arent closing they are getting ready to make some big changes..i would start to look elsewhere so you are not left unprepared..there is no amount of time they have to give you..you could walk in and be told to just go home...

I do not believe they have to give you any notice at all. You could come to work tomorrow and find a pink slip. If you are at all concerned start doing a new resume now.
