Is "Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association" a non-profit company?

Yes, the BCBSA is a not-for-profit company, meaning they are privately held. They do not report earnings to shareholders. It is not a non-profit agency as recognized by 5013(c) charity regulations.

Some of the BCBS plans are for-profit companies, however, such as Anthem.

The Assocication promotions healthcare iniatives.
