Is the customer *really* always right?

Additional Details
By the way Rick S. I'm not stupid...just so you know...I work for a huge retail chain, and it p*sses me off when we have to do whatever the customer wants, so we won't lose them.

Sometimes they are, and sometimes they arent. The problem is you have to make them feel that they are always right. The only people should should correct customers (if needed) are the managers or store owners.

healthykidnow
No and companies should realize that and quit abusing employees!

Amonda
Absolutely Not! We just make them think they are.

Just_gone
No. But if you can only deal with the nice one's, you miss a lot of $$$.

Sam
Never! But we have to make them believe that they are. =/

curmudgeon
if you want to make money, they are.

QWERTY
In a word...no.

Most of the time, customers are NOT right!

I used to be a manager of a burger king. We had a sandwich promotion, something like a rodeo burger. It's everyday price was 99 cents. The combo was $2.97 which consisted of the 99 cent burger, 99 cent fries, and 99 cent drink. As you can see, absolutely no discount whatsoever.

These people both ordered the combo, "king sized" it, and got milkshakes instead of soda. Milkshakes are usually about $1 more than soft drinks depending on the size. In this instance, it was $1.39 more because it was king sized.

A few minutes after getting their food, this ladybrought up a piece of paper and said that I ripped her off, and that i owed her $3. She tried telling me I did not give her the discount. I showed her the math and also explained there was no discount because it was just a promotional sandwich that was grouped with two other things. She also failed to get it through her head that milkshakes were WAY more expensive (as it is everywhere when you add a combo!!) , and therefor making the price of the combo higher. After argueing with her, I showed her our "cheat sheet" that clearly stated "No discount for" and the combo that she ordered. She demanded to see the manager. At this point, I was already annoyed, and I told her I was the manager, because I was. Not getting her way, she demanded to see someone over me. I told her my dad owned the place and that he was in the carribbean, so I guess that would make that person me.

Customers are NOT always right, they're usually wrong. However, they throw a fit and instead of a scene being made in the store where other customers can see it, stores usually cave in just to shut the customer up.

Phoebe

Jana
according to my mom, who is a retired police officer, in her business the customer WAS always wrong ..

gino
No, the customer is not always right.

I believe that saying came from some sales manager training a new salesman in an attempt to tell them to agree with the customer. The salesman keeps saying yes, yes, yes, then when the time comes for the salesman to ask the customer if they will buy, they say yes.

If your company has good customer service, then you bet we are!

progunr
No, they are usually wrong, but in the desire for huge profits, many businessess adopt this policy in an effort to win more customers over to fill their company with profit.
In my business, Debt Collection, the customer is ALWAYS wrong, if not, they would not be talking to me!!

Roger L
No, Notice how all the big companies always say this. The small companies who actually have thinking abilities Know that the customer is not always right.

If someone tells you you are an idiot is he right cause hes the customer , I THINK NOT

Nate
Yes...even when they're wrong.
