Is there some other word other than Dear to start a letter. The word Dear does not fit in with the context.?
I'm writing a business type letter for my boss but he wants me to look up something other than Dear for this very legal like letter. Any suggestions?
Additional Details
We have the persons name so To Whom it May Concern will not fit either.

Dispense with the pleasantry part & just dive in:

"Mr./Ms. So-and-so":

if that's too sterile you could use "Greetings:", a plain "Hello:", or the ever-clumsy "Salutations:"

In a business letter, regardless of the greeting, the name should be followed by a colon rather than a comma.

Regards,
Love,
Sincerely,
Yours truly,
BFF,
Suck it,
Best wishes,

Mushy

How about Greetings or Good Day

"Sir/Madam" would do!

I believe Dear is acceptable in business. Our law firm has used it for 15 years, even in letters to judges (Dear Judge Smith:).

I don't understand why Dear would not work.
I use it for all of my business correspondence. It is both professional and appropriate.

Beloved, Cherished, Darling, Dearest, Sweetheart, Prized, etc.

I suppose that you could just use the person's name.

Regards
