Is this a con?
I replied to an advert in my local paper for leaflet distributors. It will be deliviering leaflets for a product in my own area, or an area i choose. I do not have to pay for the leaflets but i only get paid on sales. So for example for every 100 leaflets i distribute on average 1-2 sales are made. This sale will then be applied to me an i will receive a payment. Has anyone ever done this type of work before or heard anything about it. Not sure if this is a con and if i will end of getting anything??

Well i certainly wouldnt risk that, I have never heard of leaflet distribution based on sales, you could spend hours out delivering and get nothing. I mean how often do you yourself buy something from a leaflet that comes thru your letterbox.

My instinct tells me that is a total con, you only have their word how many sales are made.

There are loads of reputable leaflet companies that pay a guaranteed wage for deliveries, try one of those..

Its all a con, because how do you know when some one buys something in your area. For all that leg work, I would get a job that pays for distributing the leaflets. Or something like AVON where you can see people are ordering.

Chasiufan
Well, I wouldn't do it.

It depends on what the product is, but I think for *any* product, the sales ratio would be much, much lower than 1 per 100 leaflets. You could easily be handing out leaflets for days or even weeks without any sales. If you've got nothing better to do then go for it - you don't have to pay for the leaflets so you have nothing to lose except your time.

is a con

Sorry, doesn't sound a very good deal for you, how will you know how many sales there are, if they they there were no sales, you may get nothing, better to get a proper job where you will get paid and have more rights.

BARROWMAN
The estimate of 1-2 sales per 100 leaflets may be a little over optimistic but possible. The hard news is walking up 100 paths and pushing 100 leaflets through 100 letter boxes. It can get a little boring delivering to every house/flat, etc. in every street. There will be long periods of time when you are pounding the pavements and receiving nothing for it. If you have the time to walk the streets you have time to find a proper job.

If they tell you that it's just a dead-end job that will end up spending more money that you make, and that all you will be doing is littering, polluting, and pissing people off...then no, I wouldn't say it's a con.

Let me guess though...they want you to buy the leaflets? So that means you are paying them money to advertise THEIR products...follow that train of thought.

Definitely a con - I have delivered leaflets, directories & yellow pages, and always been paid up front by the various agencies - NO-ONE will pay you on putative sales - dont go for it. They probably won't rip you off directly, but you will almost definitely end up working for no pay.

mudfish
i have seen it loads of times in the paper in magazines i wouldnt waste my time as there is no money in it

Sparklepop
Hi, I think this sounds like an advert from the Kleeneze industry? I don't think it's a *scam* as such, as you don't have to pay for the leaflets. But, you may not earn much from it. When a catalogue comes through your door selling cleaning products, would you buy any of it or throw it away?

I think it could work, if you deliver thousands of leaflets, but don't listen to their promises. If you've got some time off and can afford to do it, try it for a little while, but be dubious and keep looking for other work.

Also, don't give them your bank details over the phone. All they need to pay you is your account number and sort code - don't give them your credit card number or anything, just in case it is a scam.

Firstly, think about the risks. Are u going lose money by doing so? If not, if its a con then most probably the only thing u will lose is ur time and efforts. But to my knowledge i have heard of this kind of thing but u got to really put ur efforts in:)

poli_b2001
has to be a rip off. They are telling you they average 2 sales in every 100 leaflets, thats got to be rubbish. How many leaflets have you ever binned the instant they come through the door, it probably more like 1 in every 1000 and even then you'll probably not get creditied with it due to some admin reason

mainwoolly
Wouldn't think you'd make much money at it.

I think your suggestion that 1-2% of junk mail leaflets will result in a sale seems very optimistic.

And if they do, how are the company going to know that the sale was as a result of your leaflet?

I'd want to be paid on the number of leaflets I delivered.
