Is this a scam, or am I just being paranoid?
After replying to a post on Craigslist.org I received a message from a person that is selling a 2004 Nissan Maxima for $2900.00

They told me that they have a contract with eBay and that the car is already at a shipping company sealed and ready to be shipped.

Does eBay really have a program or whatever that guarantees delivery, etc?

This is a REALLY good deal, but I don't want to be scammed!

I've only used online car retailers like "autotrader.com" and "cars.com." I looked for cars that were within driving distance of 200 miles, ...simply..you can go see and inspect for yourself!

Last year a coworker of mine did the same thing you did, except he was the seller. Someone in Canada won the bid, sent him a check that was $5000 over the purchase price, appeared real to him. Basically it was a SCAM!!!

The plan was, my coworker would deposit the check and in turn cut a bank check or money order back to this person in Canada. Obviously, the buyers check would bounce, but my friends check would not....HE WOULD BE OUT $5,000!

SCAM!!! I told him NOT to deposit it, but call the attorney general's office to check it out. Fortunately he never cashed the check and the sale was cancelled.

EBAY does not guarantee anthing. Contract is between buyer and seller! Where have you heard of a 3-4 year old Nissan Maxima offered at $2900? I drive a 99 Maxima with 120,000 miles and that is worth about $4000.

Don't get SCAMMED!

You would have to register at eBay if you aren't already and have agreed to the deal through eBay officially. Sellers cannot contact people directly for anything that eBay is handling much less guaranteeing. So, it's a major scam. No one selling a car legitimately is going to have it sealed and ready to go. They have to allow you to inspect it and even take it to your own mechanic before coughing up 1 cent for it. If you think they are con-artists, report them. Cause they'll move on and victimize someones grandmother next.

Don't fall for it. It is a scam. Anytime a deal is to good to be true---it isn't true.

Ask them to give you the details of their contract with Ebay so that you can check it out. If nothing else, get the seller's name. Then contact Ebay and ask them.

I suspect they will balk at giving you any information that you can check, in which case it is a scam. If they had a contract with Ebay, they would not have used Craigslist.

Another ploy is to tell the seller that you will travel to the location and pick up the car. They would have to give you the name of the shipping company where it is located, and you could check with them if they have the car ready to be shipped. If they balk at this you can be sure there is no car. If they give you a phone number to call, do not use it. Get the number from the phone company.

You are wise to be suspicious. A lot of fraud is perpetrated on these sites.

It is a scam...

ANYONE that contacts you outside of Ebay is a scam...

If it sounds too good to be true... IT IS!

But, if you go through with the deal I got $10million in Nigeria that I need help transfering... All I need is your debit card number and pin.
