Call me cynical, but it appears that many products have their price fixed. Two examples I can think of as a write this question are Ipods and luxury watches.

i work in a local office as a temp, so i get paid by a recruitment agency. over christmas they are giving us less hours because they wont be so busy so we are all losing pay!! are they allowed to do this?? and will we be paid for xmas day and boxing day when they office is closed as they fall on weekdays when we would normally work? i know you cant tell me for sure because i need to talk to my boss but any advice will be appreciated! Thanks in advance for your answers?
well that is why companies have temps.. however you do have some rights as a temp like sick pay ect.... you should contact your agency and see if they are paying holiday pay? one or the other should... depends on your contract.

you wont get paid unless you actulaly work the hours - thats the drawback of being agency

If you are contracted, ie signed a contract when you started saying that you work e.g.40hrs per week, your company must pay you for 40 hrs, they are not allowed to cut your hours. Check out the citizens advice for full details, and take your contract along with you.
If you havent signed a contract with either the agency or the company, then I`m afraid they can do it.

i thought temps only got paid when you worked

Yes it is fair and no you will not be paid for Christmas Day or Boxing day. That's the disadvantages of being a temp I'm afraid

Check out the .gov.org website - i think you have to be paid for bank holidays and for a percentage of holidays over a 12 month period. Had you been employed by the office you would have been paid and i am certain that all of this was made equal a couple of years ago. If you cant find it - try citizens advice. Merry christmas!
