First of all, the cashier that is selling to a minor should be turned in. He, or she, should loose their job. If this minor gets into a wreck or something the store and the corporation will be held responsible for the incident. Now, is it inappropriate? No, it is not. It is the law to card people. The announcing is a bit stupid just as you say. It would make feel a bit ticked off if I were the customer. It would be enough for me to go elsewhere to buy my booze. And you can bet I would. |

You have to check for an ID, I would just tell the customer that that's what you have to do. I would say that calling it out over the intercom would just embarrass them more. Just tell them. If they aren't happy tell them to buy their alcohol somewhere else. |

I think it is odd (and embarrassing to the customer) that you would have to publicly announce every alcohol sale. Instead of carding everyone, you should have a policy where you card everyone, say, 35 and under (the Walgreens near us has a policy where they card 45 & under for cigarettes). That way you aren't guessing if someone is 18 or not. Carding older persons when it is obvious that they are legal is a bit excessive. But you've got to understand that the liquor license of the store may well be taken away if there is any further violation of the "selling to a minor" law, so that's why there may be such an overzealous policy in place. |

Seems a little overboard. Buying booze should be no more public than buying fig newtons. Why should anyone care to know these things? If I bought porn, would they announce an ID check to make sure I was over 21 while buying "JUGS" magazine? |

It does appear that they desire to shame those buying alcohol. That is unfortunate, but it is the prerogative of the store manager. |

It is completely inappropriate. If a store did that to me I would never go in there again. |

Would you rather be without a job? It is illegal to sell minors alcohol... The store you work for could of been shut down... The managers are very happy with your work ( their store was NOT shut down or SUED) |
