Scrubs 		Is this thing we got in the mail a scam?
Today, my dad recieved a check in the mail from Metro Rewards & Trust.

It said that this was their final notification for him that he was a winner of De-Lotto North American Sweepstakes on Shoppers.

It says he's entitled to $125,000.00, which was split from $4 million, which was given out to him and 30 other individuals.

The check was for $4,875. It says the purpose of the check is for the payment of applicable goverment taxes on your big winnings.

It also says not to try to cash the check until he calls the number below.

My dad called and asked what it was, and the people said he won the check from a random drawing from shopping at stores like Target, K-mat and Wal-Mart.

He didn't give out his information to them yet, nor has he cashed the check. We tried checking online to see what this is about, but failed to find anything.

Help!

My dad is the kind of guy who does those pop-up's for an hour before he realizes it's a waste of time, and also, we typed in "Metro Rewards and Trust" and didn't find anything.

The bank will call Dad in 30 days to say that the check is counterfeit. He will be asked to return the money or face going to jail. He did not win a contest he did not enter..

It's a scam. How could you *not* find anything on line? I just googled "De-Lotto North American Sweepstakes" and found dozens of reports talking about what a scam this "lottery" is. Here's just one of many examples:

SCAM!!! Stay away from these Scams. Your father should know by now that if it's too good to be true, it really isn't. Nobody gives a stranger a big sum of money for nothing. Only winning you may claim is your state sponsored lottery or raffles at various events, not the one which comes via US mail.

Its a scam... if it were for real they would have been able to tell him where he signed up for it and they would already have his info.....I won a trip to Paris and the company sent me an email and they had all my info all and told me when and how i signed up for it and also the names of the sponsors so if they don't know this info its a lie.... i have also gotten some calls from companies claiming that i had won 1,000 and a magazine subscription from a contest i signed up for when i used my mastercard( which is a lie because i don't have any credit cards) and then they told me all i had to do is subscribe to some newspaper and send them a $40 check... yeah total scam!!
