Correct, Verizon Wireless is a partner with Vodafone. It's an interesting relationship. Currently, Verizon Wireless could possibly stand on their own, seeing as they are an American giant and they use a different digital technology (CDMA). Believe it or not, Verizon Wireless was not always Verizon Wireless. It once comprised of separate and individual cell phone carriers: Bell Atlantic Mobile, Airtouch, GTE Wireless, and Primeco. Thanks to the Vodafone connection there have been some fantastic developments such as international text messaging (SMS). You can check out the website for more info.

Verizon has close to 56 percent and Vodafone owns 44 percent. Verizon Wireless is not technically a "part" of Vodafone but before becoming Verizon Wireless, the part that Vodafone controls was called Vodafone Airtouch. Vodafone Airtouch merged with the wireless properties of Bell Atlantic and GTE which created Verizon Wireless.
