I love working at night. It's generally more quiet, but this definitely depends on the job ;-) But that's also why night is meant for you to sleep. Do you have sleeping problems? Or could you fall asleep easily and have a restful sleep even during the day? For example, I need complete darkness and silence to sleep well. This can of course be arranged. You would need the same amount of sleep even if you work the night shift, but if you like your job and can make your schedule agree with your schedule and your customs, you won't feel much difference in the end. |

My girl friend and I both work nights. She works 3-4 nights for 12 hours. I work 4 nights 11pm to7:30 am. I also work days on saturdays. I go to sleep within 1-2 hours of getting home. I live a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from work. I am asleep by 9:30 and wake up around 2:00-4:00. Sometimes I nap in the evening. My girlfriend also attends school, she sleeps less. WE are both in our late 40's. I like this schedule as I have up to 8 hours between waking up and going to work.This allows time to work out, go places, or just relax. I have no trouble sleeping, I live in a quiet neighborhood, and I don't socialize. The night shift works for me. I just want to get off saturdays. |

Working the night shift can and will cause a variety of problems. Mental health is of great concern. Many people that work the night shift for long periods become very paranoid and reclusive.
Social problems quickly arise and contribute to the deterioration of mental and physical health. It is a day time world we live in and that world does not change when you go on the night shift. Banks and stores still open at 9 am.
A normal adult needs 7 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. This is difficult to get when working nights.Sleep deprivation cause a multitude of mental and physical problems. Many people work nights for long periods of time ,but not without sacrificing their health and social life. |

I work 11PM to 7AM. It is probably not the healthiest, but it is better to work just one particular shift than to work swing shift. I have been doing it for eight years now, so I have adjusted. I sleep from 8AM to about 2:30PM. Then if I am tired. I sleep from 8 to 10pm before going in. That is the way I survive. In fact, it is past 8 now. Time for nitey nite. Ta! |

Never liked 3rd shift..It's hard 2 sleep durning the daytime when you get home at least it was 4 me.Good Luck |

Humans are adaptable to any kind of environment. So sleeping during the day doesn't do much harm unless you keep room dark while you sleep. Keeping the room dark help you sleep better. say minimum of 6 hrs per day will be just fine. Your gf or wife would be very happy if you are very active at night. |
