Hi, I find that other female coworkers get jealous of me. I don't know why that is, but it always seems as though they always want to compete with me and I don't know why that is. Its so stupid. Most of them, for whatever reason, use that as a survival tactic to keep their jobs. I don't get it. Can someone explain to me why people have to act so childish in the corporate world. This especially happens with immature secretaries in law firms. |

I understand you pain!
I got employee of the year at our company picnic this past weekend and my peer (my Simi 'equal' at the corporate office) and her husband came to me after the awards to tell me how they think she should have gotten the award. All I could do is say, ‘I am sorry for your disappointment, but there is always next year.’ What could I have said? I felt embarrassed. It was a peer vote. I felt, as well as others, that I had deserved my title.
I feel that the Corporate World is just like High School… it’s just a bigger pond with older people in it. Nothing really changes other that the surroundings and age. I feel that if you are having this problem…. You must be doing something right, or else their would be no reason for them to be so competitive with you. You give them a run for their money, force them to work harder. Many people don’t want to have to do that, they think that they shouldn’t have to prove them self’s. And when they do try and prove themselves… they are directing it in the wrong direction.
And sometimes, people feel that they are less than what they should be so they attack others who they feel shouldn’t be where they are at in there job. Little do they know, nor take the time to think, that there are reasons you are so successful. They don’t see all of what you are doing. They do not try to place themselves in the shoes of others that they criticize, instead they attack them.
I am sorry that you have to deal with the malicious attacks by other women. I am not sure as to any advice I could offer you. Other than keep your head up, and don’t let the jealousy of others get you down. |

I don't know WHY it happens, but I know exactly what you mean. Women can be so catty and backstabbing! In my experience, men are so much easier to work with. They tend to say what they mean, get to the point, and move on. If you do something that annoys them, or vice versa, it's handled quickly. Of course, they are also not usually as nurturing, but I can get that from my friends and family!
My husband manages a small office, and every time he has an opening, I recommend that he keep the ratio of men to women 3 to 1. And he tends to agree. There are certain things women do better in general, but too many women can make things unbearable. (I don't mean any disrespect AT ALL to my gender!) |

The corporate world working environment is very competitive by nature so it's no big surprise that this will happen.
Ignore those who are jealous and concentrate on working hard and moving up the ladder of success.

I think because they were very uncool in high school and you remind them of that or becuause you are better then them and they know it or because they are b!tches. I'm going with the last one. But not saying that you aren't better then them. |
