THE MOTLEY ONE | Just wondering if people would stop buying herseys chocolate if it is moving to mexcio in 3 years? my opion ye |
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Hershey Co. is cutting its work force by 1,500 and is building a new factory in Mexico as part of a three-year plan to scale back its production lines, the nation's biggest candy maker announced Thursday. |

I like to support American workers, I will look at where products are made and try to buy the American product, and even pay more for the product. Now that I know Hersheys is moving to Mexico I will be less inclined on buying the chocolate from now on. |

The company has been selling candy all around the world for years. SORRY THEY ARE TAKING YOUR JOB, they can move any of their operations anywhere they wish. I FOUGHT A WAR TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY CAN AND COULD DO THIS.
DON'T WORRY, competition will force the company to reconsider. If the workers start making candies, Hershey will loose sales. Who will you buy from the company that left your neighbors high and dry or the little guy that is trying to help your neighbor. I LOVE UNDER DOGS! |

If you want to eat chocolate and you don't want to eat chocolate made in a foreign country, you may not have many choice left if all of Hershey's production moved outside the U.S., given that the other top chocolate makers who sell in the US are Nestle (a Swiss company) and Cadbury Schweppes (centered in the UK) and M&M/Mars (HQ's in NJ, but made in several countries around the world).
That said, 1500 is not a majority of the people working in Hershey (13,000 employees worldwide, a majority of them I believe in Hershey), and only a percentage of the manufacturing will be moved to Mexico. Because of the short shelf life of chocolate and the need to keep it at aclimate temperature, it is more likely that the candy from your local shelf will still be made in Hershey, at least if you live in the Northeast. If you live in Texas, it may be a toss-up, but those in Texas already assume that most of what they eat is made in Mexico. |

I wil still eat the chocolate. If the american worker didn't demand so much money to sit on his/her a$$ and watch candies come down a conveyer belt the factory would still be there. Unions are running our business to other countries and leaving our workforce high and dry because no company wants to pay an assembly line employee $25 an hour |

Rick,
Hershey is not going to leave Hershey, PA. 1500 people is a very small amount, especially considering the fact that the majority of those employees will be retirees who will not be replaced.
Have you ever been to Hershey, PA? If I remember correctly it's near Penn State. The entire town smells like chocolate and the streetlights are in the shape of Hersheys' Kisses. |

OMG! Believe me we have a plant close to where I live and they are already making the list of people who are going. They are one the major employers in the area . I have no clue what is going to happen to these poor people that have been there for years. And down Hershey. |
