To ensure quality and consistency, McDs like to control as much of the supply chain as possible. For example, they have exclusive contracts w/farmers for a special kind of potato (that way no one elese can offer it). Most of the items are prepared at large mfg. facilities and shipped to the franchises (who are obligated to buy from McDs...i.e. they can't buy their pickles from any other source).

The restaurant business are owned by franchisees who are obligated to buy from McDs, and McDs owns the land, so they can control a franchisee since they own the lease.

It is worth noting that McDs only own a small part of the vertically-integrated supply chain. They don't grow the potatos or own the beef plants (or the restaurants for that matter), but they control who can do what in the chain via exclusive arrangements.

They order everything from a commissary, just like any other business like that does. Then they store it and sell it to people who really shouldn't be eating that crap anyway. Also, I can tell you they sell their used grease to cosmetic companies to be refined into lipstick, etc.

Sorry, can't help you; that's a big topic. Next time, do your homework early enough to do your own research.
