Otherwise put the notice in writing and place it in the out-of-towner's inbox. Then only mention your intentions to the boss when he/she calls in to the office. Don't call her just to announce this. |

then, as a courtesy to your boss, telephone him at his work number. Leave message if you must.
If he's on vacation, he's appointed someone to handle his tasks while he's gone. If he's on a company trip, he'll likely call in for messages as his meetings and travel allow.
