fredasita | My boss won't promote me , what can I do? |
My district manager won't promote me. I have 10 years of hotel experience , been a hotel manager before but still won't promote me. I sent to my Vice President 2 email with suggestions to improve our group revenue (120 hotels total) he sent me a thank you email but none changed my situation. I am still a hotel clerk. In the past I was a hotel manager but I tried a different field but now I want to become a hotel manager again. I have been with the company for 4 years now. What should I do? |

Feeling Mutual

You should send your resume out to several other hotels. |

tell them that you think it is time that you were promoted. tell them you are interested in the manager thing and let them know that you know what your doing!! call corporate. |

If your promotion chances are very high you would have likely heard something by now. Or even have been given a nudge to apply when the position opened by a superior. Unfortunately your experience in the position your in is just a small part of what they likely look at.
Just from what you told me...if it were me reviewing your bid, the first question I'd ask is why are you wanting to come back to hotel management after you blew off the last position to "try something new." I'd see damaged goods. I don't know you from Adam but in my line of work there are many senior agents that I wouldn't promote. They hit all the marks on paper...but lack that special quality, the one that allows things to roll off their shoulder, handle pressure, coach agents, retain a since of focus, calm, and poise under the microscope of corporate and under unsurmountable deadlines. All these things typically cannot be quantified and are all subjective, yet very important to survive in a management position.
If you feel that you should get this position I would schedule a time to speak with your superior, let him know that you want to know what you can improve on in your job to appeal more to this position. |

Let them know you are interested. I also just read an article suggesting that wearing "interview clothes" to work and taking your lunch break away from work makes it seem like you are interviewing with other places and your employer is more likely to promote you if they think you are looking for another job. |

you should tell your boss what you want (show up once a week during his lunch break) or go to the vice president of the company (show up on his lunch break once a week) Just be persistent and they will promote you. |
