My husband did a logo for a large coroporation and..?
(of which he is being payed for)They are using this logo on there website. Now there talking about using his logo on the building it self too and wants to meet with him. Do you think they will "buy" his logo from him now since they are deciding to use it on the building too? He has no idea why this guy wants to meet with him. Is this how it works? Thank you for the mature answers!

As long as he has proof that he was the originator of this design he currently owns the work and it is already effectively copyrighted. You may wish to talk to a lawyer, but only if you are uncomfortable with something that comes up (also depending upon the amount of money that is being discussed), as long as any papers are written in plain English (or local language equivalent) there is no problem.

The organization could be offering to purchase it outright or to license it from him (probably a purchase if they are going to use it that prominently).

Note: Depending upon the current license agreement it probably makes no mention of uses other than they are currently using it for, therefore they may just want a modification of the license agreement.

Be sure that any agreement is spelled out completely and clearly in any papers signed (such as limitations on usage by either party, amount to be paid for agreed upon uses, etc.).

The point of successful negotiations is that everyone leaves the table a winner, having gotten what they wanted but not having robbed another or been robbed themselves.

Not too sure, but it sounds like it. I would suggest that your husband not make any snap decisions at this meeting. Get the information, but you may want this reviewed by an attorney. There are probably several considerations that you and I don't know, but I good lawyer that specializes in trademark/copyrights would be well qualified for.

Tell him that he should patent and "lease" his logo to the company for a small fee, very small. Because when the company becomes popular and richer, they will become more dependent upon the logo for name recognition. When the lease term is up he will make a killing with the new negotiation for the next seven or ten years.

This is how Bill Gates got rich leasing his "windows" operating program to IBM

Yeah, that's how it works. And since it's a big corporation they surely will pay him, probably a lot, too.

1- Agree with ryan c that he should lease 2-agree with Angie that he should get an attorney.

I hope your husband isn't gullible because they may want to meet him to see if he is a push over. Tell him to: keep "a poker face", let them know that he is interested in their offer but not to appear to eager: ask questions: let them know he is interested but be firm that he needs to review the offer. He shouldn't mention the attorney (that's his secret card)! That's how the game is played.

If your husband is that good and he can swing this deal, this will be a great opportunity to get other important jobs. Good luck:)
