First, you wise-up. Do you have an idea of when and why the belittling started? Did you volunteer an opinion? Was it work-related?

Obviously asking directly isn't an option, so you may need to pull back from any non work related banter for a while. Also be sure to be SURE of any suggestions you make in the near future and if/when the next belittling comment comes out, you should ask in a voice a little louder than normal "I'm sorry, was there something you wanted to speak to me about?" This will clearly send the message that the comment was inappropriate. The next time you might ask " Is something bothering you, you seem to be picking on me a lot lately? Am I just being sensitive or is there something we need to talk about?"

If the boss goes passive-aggressive on you - start looking for a new job!

have your own interstes at heart not his. You are doing him no favours if you dont do what is best to fulfill your role.

Is he belittling you or just trying to get you to focus on what you should be doing.

Be honest

Do it for your interests not his, maybe he feels threatened by you and doesn't want you to be promoted

Ignore that really mean answers above - they are losers, like your boss!!! It's really hard when you have a problem like this at work, and even worse when it's your boss so you can't even tell your boss about it! You really don't want to make things worse because your job is important to you, but you can't put up with a bully, and if you're asking this question on the internet then I'm guessing you are already pretty sick of it. I guess what you should do depends on how bad you need your job, and on how bad your boss is making you feel. If you really need your job bad then maybe you can't do anything just now - what's happening is not right but maybe you'll decide you can put up with it and bite your tongue? - I probably wouldn't be able to do that. You could confront him - maybe you could try to make it into a joke - that could show him that you know what he's doing, but make it look like it's not getting to you - people like him often lose interest if they think that what they're doing isn't phasing you. Alternatively you could try to be assertive - remind yourself that he is wrong not you, that you are good at your job and that you deserve respect - he might be your boss but this does not give him the right to treat you like this. Go in to see him at a good time (when he can't turn it round and say you've got work to get on with or he's too busy to speak to you) and try to keep as calm as possible. Being assertive means that you are loud enough to get your point across but not so loud that you are aggressive - just explain to him how he is making you feel and how you would like to be treated in future. State that you think that this is a reasonable request and ask him if he agrees. If he tries to interrupt you at any time just say I'm sorry I'm speaking now please could you let me finish? or something like that. Focus on what you want to say more than what he's saying or doing until you've finished, but let him know that he's got time to speak when you've finished and that you will listen to his point of view. I know that's all really really hard to do, esp. if he's been upsetting you quite a lot. The last option would be to quit your job - you could try to find a new one first so that you won't need to worry about the cost of being out of work. If you don't need a reference from them this would be all the better because you could leave in a way you feel is appropriate, or explain all in a letter of resignation, it'll help your self esteem! I really don't think it's worth the stress of staying in a job when you're being treated badly and even though you shouldn't have to leave, sometimes it's better just to quit and get it over with than go through the stress of trying to sort stuff out - in my experience it feels so good that you don't have to deal with that stuff anymore even if your career takes a step backwards - you've got to think of yourself and how important your job is to you.

Sorry there's no easy answers - I hope you work it out in a way that's right for you - good luck :)

keep notes of where, when and how. Then go and see his or her boss with the evidence. O....and make sure you are in a Union.
