Your attire should be explained in the corporate employees handbook and should be provided for their benefit as well as yours. Now abuse is another thing contact your states labor association and get their hand book .Verbally degrading you doesn't sound legal to me Check it out and if you find it in writing let them know you know A lawsuit might be just the thing to put those arrogant a** holes in their place

Legally you have the right to get your resume together and move on.

Does the company have a written dress code stating the jeans have to be, designer jeans? If there is such a dress code you have nothing. You may have signed off on this in a employee handbook and just did not read it. If not ask for a copy of the dress code so that does not happen again.

As for the yelling, if they are REAL yelling, with loud voices this could be considered creating a hostile work environment, which can be a form of harassment. Also the telling you "your nothing," is differently belittling and is a derogatory comment.

Check out my sources for more info and help from the hostile work environment part. YOu stant a better chance there...Good Luck

If your good at what you do you can always just tell them all to "kiss you ***, in a most poetic way."

The callin u nothing is harassment and u can file with the state dept of labor keep in mind this may cost u job even though its not supposed to. I have been down this road most states are employment at wil they can fire whenever they want without cause its up to u to prove discrimination which is hard. I was fired by a lady who i learned later fires people for fun her husband is big shot lawyer and she gets away with it

Sadly they can set their own dress code unless its unequal if a coworker ( same job ) is allowed to wear what u cant then u have a case. My advice is to get out of there if u can

If u have a union they can help u and if u have a contract and they are violating what is in it thats also in ur favor

He shouldn't yell at you but he is the boss so you have to do what he wants or look for a new job. Unless what he wants is illegal or immoral. It is nice they will allow you to wear jeans at work, most places don't and if they do most people wouldn't if they want to look professional.

I know this is what you want to hear, but suck it up and quit being a crybaby. Welcome to real life!

I'm not sure, this does sound like a hostile work environment, but unless its witnessed and over the top, its hard to prove, and probably more trouble than its worth to fight. The facts of life are this.. If you don't like your companys culture, or your boss, its often easier to take the easy way out. Either start searching for a new position, and play the game in the mean time until something better comes along, OR don't buy into the name brand crap, continue to buy cheap khaki slacks, keep your head down and get work done, if they bring this kind of thing up again, always be self effacing and admire them, "Oh gee Mr. BigShot , I do admire the way you dress, I simply don't make enough money to buy (insert label here) after all one pair of those is a weeks pay for me, remember. I do like the design house though....." then hurry away saying over your shoulder that you must finish whatever task you working on before he insulted you. For the next week be sure to admire at least one of his ridiculously expensive non-essential items a day... "I Love your Burberry scarf Mr.BigShot! Is It new?" Then as he ruffles, turn and rush off again, Ohhh let me get your coffee...... the fax you wanted is in.... whatever. there is a way to turn this stuff around, be humble and remind them that you either didn't have your silver spoon shoved in your mouth neo-natal and they should shut it and give you a raise, or, to entertain your self while job hunting..... Win/win Ohhh and next time, be a itty bit more observant of the corporate culture before you jump on!

Holy smoke, what set these clowns off, anyway?

The first one sounds like he has a galloping case of "Little Man's Disease"! If he has to rant and rave about his own importance, then he is already a loser.

And the other partner sounds equally pathetic. Designer jeans?? Jeez, get a life.

If it were me, I would immediately look for another job. No job is worth putting up with these nitwits who MAY just fire you for no good reason at all. They both sound like they are unhinged.

It is definitely abuse but I don't know if it is illegal; just really bad "management style". Yes I think it does violate your rights, but if you mention that you are liable to find yourself fired for even mentioning it. And it does sound a tad "whiney" when you put it like that. WHEN you leave, make sure you mention to them the fact that you did not appreciate being abused.

I had a lunatic boss like this. She was just plain craaazeeee! She would start yelling for no good reason at all.Fortunately, I was a temp and was able to transfer out of her warped universe.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but good luck anyway.

Marla
There is no violation of your rights. If you had to wear a uniform or a dress code then wear that or quit. Good reasons to start your own business, he is my boss and owns the building, told me i was nothing.
