Tingting | Nepotism -- why so bad? |
I keep hearing that nepotism is all bad – disadvantageous for the company and un-motivating for the individual.
My dad invested into and started a company, so he is the CEO and one of the Board of Directors. I am Chinese, and the company is international, meaning that there is a branch on both coasts. Technically, because I have what they call “connections” and “social support”, I could easily “get into” the company (especially in Chinese society).
In a way, that is true, but my parents are NOT promoting that. My mom is a lawyer, and she and my dad prepare me by discussing politics and finance, etc, with me (not that we don’t talk about anything else). I am still expected to do well in school, graduate into a good college, gain outside experience, and so on…
A lot of people condemn nepotism. Why? Is it because they think I could get in for “free”? It’s not as if I just hang out at the mall and one day, suddenly, I become the finance manager! Additional Details My parents try to prepare me, from all different aspects, and encourage me to go find jobs outside (like waitressing) to gain experience.
Why do people despise nepotism so much? Also, if I’m working for my OWN company, wouldn’t I be more sincere and work harder?
I really don’t understand. I feel as if all my hard work equals zero just because I have that extra support from my family. |

Personally, I don't think it's "bad" if it's earned.
It seems like you ARE earning it. But understand that not everyone is like your family. Some parents pave the way for their kids and just drop them into prestige positions!
No, your work does NOT = zero! Keep working hard, and those around you still see that you DESERVE that spot. Forget those to dismiss your efforts because they do not understand your situation.
Good luck, you'll do great in life! |

because it keeps the most qualified people from getting positions and gives it to someone who may or may not deserve it |

You are a great advocate for nepotism.
I believe that your particular story is not typical of nepotism. |

People don't like nepotism if family ties are used above suitability for the job as criteria for hiring someone. Even if the relative is well qualified, by hiring a relative who they can influence, someone can gain more power in the organization than if they had to hire someone else. |

NEPOTISM .........? why -- all .....isms are not good for governance to become good governance with self-controlling mechanism.
take your your family (I quoted because you made public), will you or ur mom agree with everything that your dad (who gave everything for you including freedom)
you should learn to think differently (not doing things differently) to win the world. when it applies to you, it apply to your family, to your corporate, to your country and to the whole Globe overall.
please study the history of great rise and fall -
best of luck - I advocate to think differently because there is a life in diversification - if NEPOTISM allow this all will welcome this way of life also |
