I have no contract, every week we are told what work is on and we book in for this if it suits, however the hours are always the same 4 till 8, recently we were told the hours are now 4 till 9, if we dont like this leave, I have been with the company seven years, and I just found out that a member of staff has been given permission to leave at 8 due to her commitments, she has been about two years with the company. If you are employed by the company rather than self employed but work with them then you have rights as after 14 weeks employment (after any probation period) you have an effective contract based on the terms that were worked to over that 14 week period.
Check with the C.A.B for more specifics but I'm pretty sure that that's still the case legally-it certainly was a few years ago when I had reason to look into it.
Best thing to do in the interim period is approach your immediate boss and explain your circumstances-after all you may not need to go in 'all guns blazing' at all. |

Employment is not slavery. In my opinion you have your rights. But the problem is the absence of a written agree- ment between you and your employer, without which you cannot take any legal action |

by the sound of it the person / company is just employing you as a casual worker in which case you have no rights what so ever.
i dunno what the job is but if i was in your position i would go and work in a local supermarket, they will look after you a bit better and will give you the hours that will suit you. |

It sounds like you are effectively self employed. Do you are your employers deal with the National Insurance and tax deduction. If it is you then you are self employed. If the employer they are employing you. Go to the tax authority in your area and seek advice from them. It could be that they are deducting tax etc and not actually passing it on to the Revenue. You should have a contract so do some research based on the forgoing. |
