Susan D | Norwich Union taking labour abroad? |
Should we boycot companies like Norwich Union for sacking so many thousand of our fellow Brits to open call centres in India?
On principle I will no longer use the services of these corporate companies who put profit in their back pocket ahead of good customer service and loyalty to fellow Brits. Additional Details I switched to Nat West Bank as they are using local people.
It's not at all racist, there's nothing worse than trying to talk to somebody you don't understand, there are only so many 'pardons' you can say before it gets embarassing. |

I tried to get a quote for car insurance from Norwich Union, the call centre in India was noisy and the woman on the other end of the phone was rude.
When she asked me how many miles I drive, I replied 40,000 she said "not the mileage of the car" "how many miles will you drive" so I repeated 40,000. She then told I was "lying as no-one drives 40,000 miles a year".
Then when I told I had an SP50 speeding offence (March 2005), she told me I must still be disqualified. So I explained that I got 3 points on my license and a £60.00 fine, she told that SP50 is an automatic disqualification and that they would not insure a driver that was disqualified.
We continued, I explained about a car accident May of this, the other car was at fault, but did not stop, that car was then burnt out. Again she accused me of lying. You have to stop after an accident, she also said that I must have caused the accident and made up a story about it.
She then asked me about the car I was buying, I told her it was an 05 plate Renault, she wanted to know the details so I told her, she was able to confirm these because here computer had the details, she then asked when I wanted it covering so I said from Thursday, she said the drive away cover starts immediately, I said that's ok.
So we got the the point where she about to provide the quote and then said, oh but you're disqualified, I'll have to talk to the underwriters.
I reminded her that I was not disqualified, and that she had been rude to me on several occasions and that I'd like to speak to her manager. She hung-up!
So yes boycott them, not just because of bad experiences, but becasue their TV ads show calls centres with british staff, when nearly all of the call centre staff are based in India. |

Agree totally - and they had the cheek to say that the reason for the job cuts was that more customers were taking out insurance over the Internet. |

Sadly if you do that then you won't have many companies left to use! I think its a right royal pain in the a** when they do this though!
If it where for good reason such as expansion etc, then fine but they are only doing it to save money at the cost of customer service! |

write a reasoned argument why outsourced call centres are bad; bad service, unemployment and retraining costing UK taxpayer money, N.U. exporting its tax liability abroad reducing income to u.k. government, and any more you can think of. e-mail it to as many people as you can, ask them to e-mail it on to their contacts, also asking them to e-mail it to t N.U. with the addition that they will not consider using N.U. anymore. hopefully N.U. will get the message, thousands off them. |

I refuse to use companies that use foreign call centres.
Norwich Union claim that they are doing this so that they can offer a 24hour service.
My Bank-First Direct, offer a 24 hour service using call centres based here in the UK,there is no need for these companies to move call centres abroad, other than Greed. |

So my bank now has an indian call centre where they cant understand a word im saying and mess up my account every time I phone and now Im gonna have the same problem with my insurance.
I absolutly hate foreign call centres, I always ask to be transferred back to an English centre-Im not being racist when I do it or rude, I just want to speak to someone who can actuall y help me and understand what I am talking about!! |

Don't believe all the media hype, very few jobs are going abroad. Most of the people who work for Norwich Union and their subsidiaries are keeping their jobs, just maybe moving within the company. The ones that are going are natural wastage, eg people who are retiring and leaving of their own accord. Norwich Union is a very good company to work for. The people to blame for this current panic are the ones who leaked the story to the press and the journalists themselves for their lack of research!! |

Swampy_bogtrotter would say that wouldn't she, her lively hood depends on it. I totally agree with you in what you say, I had my phone stolen last month, I called 3 and couldn't understand them, think I was calling India too. Today I called them to buy a replacement phone, as I am on a 18 month contract and had only been with them for 11 months the woman told me it would cost me £295 plus I would have to sign up for another 18 months, I told her to get lost, I went on the net and set up another contract with them, 6 months at £15 per month followed by 12 at £30, 2000 texts, 600 mins, free MMS and video calls and the Nokia N80 was free, in 7 months i'll just cancel the original contract when it's up, it'll cost me £120 extra in total, better than £295, i'm going against my principals by doing this but 3 didn't make people redundant then ship jobs overseas, they have always operated from over there.
I won't use Norwich Union again, they are just greedy. |
