If a person receives a monthly sum deposited into their bank acct. from a bank in Bermuda do they have to pay taxes on it. Let's say in one year a person received 96,000.00(non taxed money in Bermuda) by way of transfers...can the IRS discover this and make them pay taxes?
Thanks for any help.
Additional Details
The person receiving the money lives in the US. All monies come from the father's business (US & International) |

The money is fully taxable and failing to declare them as income is tax evasion, punishable by fines and jail time. Since the money comes from abroad, there will be different tax applied to them, then the income earned in US. But non the less it is taxable income. |

yes, they are required to pay taxes. And yes, the IRS can do an audit and discover the fact that they are not paying taxes. The IRS can then asess penalties and interest on overdue taxes. |

If the IRS finds out, yes you can be forced to pay taxes... and even do jail time for tax evasion.
You need to speak with an accountant. |

It depends on what the source of the cash payments was. If it is interest then yes, it is taxable. If it is a distribution of capital from an investment, then it isn't. However, these are only the basics. You really should consult with a CPA who has experience in foreign source income. |

If they live in the U.S. and are a citizen, they are 100% liable for income taxes they patriate. If they never repatriate the money, then their tax situation is different. So yes, every dollar wired into their local account or even money they spend from the offshore account in the U.S. is fully taxable. Call a good lawyer. |

Tax evasion is a crime. Declare the income and if there is an exemption that applies, claim the exemption. The tax you'll pay on the money will seem cheap compared to the cost of defending yourself in a tax evasion case. |
