OPEC cuts oil production, do they really care that the world is in a big problem?
I would suggest to you that they do not care and in fact are toying with the world market just to see what powers they really do have over the economies of the world. It was afterall their huge increases in oil costs that help land us in this problem in the first place. What are your thoughts?
nope. If they did, they would show the love. The high oil prices are being used to further the nuclear program in Iran, they don't want to lose money.

It's a cartel -- meaning that their first and foremost concern is to maximize the gains and profits for each of their members. Never mind if the world out there is having a difficult time

They have never cared. They are about controlling the world's oil supply and exploiting the power that comes from that. They are not pansy liberals who want the world to be fair. They thrive off countries who are.

Yes they are really toying with the world market. I fully agree with you.

That's capitalism for ya, mate.

As one of the other posters said, "That's capitalism...".
It is true and we should jolly well participate in that very system by INCREASING OUR OWN OIL PRODUCTION to offset OPEC.
Well the libs let us do that?
I doubt it.
Congress has their collective head too far up to realize what is happening.

They care only to a degree. Most of these countries have calculated in their budgets the reliance on the price of oil being between 80 - 100 bucks/barrel. They have cut production (worldwide) by 5%. Russia, though not a member of OPEC, has great influence in this area, as well. When oil dips below 70/barrel, the Russians are no longer making profit, so this scares them... they have many military committments they are counting on that rely on these hyped up oil prices.
I believe the US needs to work with fanatic committment to become independent of that mess. Also, if we are going to be in a war... why not make it an all-out war and simply TAKE those guys oil
