Dude, I totally agree!! it's the same oil fields, the same refineries, and the same transportation. but the one difference is the oil companies are jacking-up the prices to record highs and in turn jacking our wallets!!

like i told a friend before holidays, when gas prices went lower, just watch in MARCH price for GAS goes UP, & UP & up for summer etc., its hurting the economy bad!!!!, i barely drive anymore,.... no excuse for the ridiciluos prices but GREED!.

Oil companies work off margins. If the margin is 50% and the cost basis is $50, then the retail cost is $75 ($50/.5 +$50). If the cost basis is $10, then the retail price would be $15. I do not remember anyone wanting to help out the oil companies when they were losing money in the 80's. If free markets are not allowed to exist, it is called communism. Instead of blaming oil companies, we need to build more refineries since we are at refining capacity. Democrats have not allowed new refineries to be built for over 30 years due to 'environmental' concerns.

I don't think you are the only person who feels this way.

All companies have the power to charge what they feel like charging though.

My oil company investents are doing great. I save on gas by not driving everywhere...

I really hate paying more for gas, and for that matter anything. My pay doesn't flucuate like gas but even if it did, I sure wouldn't get ahead I would just stay stagnate. I do not own any stock in the oil companies and never have but I do not think they are out to get us for the following reasons:

The barrel price is set on the world market not by the oil companies. China and India are need for gas is growing at double digit rates and their demand for oil is skyrocking so the price of crude is going up...simple enough

American use about 9 million barrels per day that is roughly 180 million gallons. The demand is hitting all time highs meaning there are more consumers than before and the supply is still the same.

Just making a dollar per barrel (roughly on 20 gallons of gas per barrel) more would result in an increase in profit of 3 billion 385 million dollars in a year and that is what we are seeing, Billion dollar increases. No one felt sorry for them when they were not making any increases, we always hate the kids with the new bike.

Here are some other reasons: At that barrel price it is more cost effective to get the oil out of the ground in North America. In Canada there is enough oil in the tar pits to run the world for 100 years, when the barrell price was $50 it was very expensive to process that oil. Now the process hasn't changed but the price what they are getting for that barrel has so it makes it worth their while. So there are more profits there.

It is fun to go after oil companies, but they aren't the enemy, stop using their product and the price will go down, they are producing it everyday with the assumption you will need more tomorrow. They can't afford to hold supply.

We also have a ton of tax thrown on those gallons of gas. If we get socialized medicine (this is meant as an example not a for/against argument) in this country the first place they are going to go after is gas, the reason being, it is the easiest thing to know that you will always have demand. Taxing yachts won't cut it. They are also getting free oil and gas from our government....... you can read about it below
