I do not have a band to play the music I write. Also, I do not have the money to hire one. Therefore, I cannot send a CD of the music being played live to be copyrighted. My question: is there an alternative?

Yes you can copyright all your musical paper work and drafts, don't have to have a CD to prove it |

I advise though, get a band together and produce the songs before you worry about copyright |

certify mail it to your self and do not open it!
then take a copy to a person that will pay you for it
and if he steals it then you have the un-opened certified mail showing that you invented it before he did |

of course you can copyright sheet music, and there may be a way to copyright a midi file that you compose with your sheet music in a composing program |
