Our Walmart has begun selling beer and wine. Does Walmart really want to do this?
...Generally, the goal of any business is to make money, but we have had big problems in our county with teens drinking and driving, and some have died in car accidents where alcohol was a factor. I believe it is a giant step down and will add more alcohol-related problems to our community.
...I believe I know who will be flocking into Walmart seeking cheap booze on the weekends - teens of all ages, rushing to get their alcohol. It will add to traffic that is already there and problems outside too.
...I had some trouble with neighbor boys a few years back, who were minors and were allowed to drink at home, and invite their buddies until they became drunken brawls, and this happened more than once. Fights could also result outside Walmart.
...I am going to write Walmart and try and convince them to rethink this and stop selling beer and wine.
...Any thoughts? Please be sincere and courteous.

...Yes, the parents need to teach their kids right and set an example, but I also think that Walmart should limit the choices. I also wish they would stop selling tobacco products, further limiting the choices.

It is strictly business of supply and demand. They are not the only ones to sell with Costco being another.

As for abuse of alcohol even if Wal Mart stopped they would buy it elsewhere.

More about Wal Mart and it is titled "What are your opinons of Wal Mart?" asked by Proud Aussie here at Yahoo Answers and this is the link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080212020412AAJTPwK&r=w#F717G3HIAlcTb1VAdWYc

Our Wal-Mart has sold everything from beer to hard liquor for years now.. I feel that this is a convient way to shop and get everything all at once. I feel that as long as the cashier I.D.'s everyone so that they won't be contributing to minors this will be a glorious marriage of grocery's and liquor.

WalMart could not care less about you or any other of its customers. They're only interested in money and they'll only be happy when there are no other stores in town. If you shop there, get over it.

I do not shop there.

they sell Guns to the public also and it's tough to stop. If your worried about kids drinking and driving don't blame Walmart...blame the parents for not raising kids the right way. It's so easy for Americans to blame people....if you don't like what's on the radio...change the channel, if a store sell beer and wine.....don't shop they.....i hope you get my drift.....Parents have to teach and bring kids up correctly....If a kid wants to drink he'll fine a way to get it either from walmart or hanging out by a 7-11 and paying somebody to do it for them..........EDUCATE THE KIDS don't waste time or paper on nonsense.

The Walmart in our town has sold beer for quit a while. They are very strict with id ing. -

I live in a state that has a law that any beverage containing over a certain amount of alcohol can (not) be sold at grocery stores or super markets. It can only be bought at the liquor store. Our Walmarts sell beer as do all the food stores. Here the local convenience stores sell beer for less than Walmart. So I say, if you are going to ask Walmart to stop selling beer etc., then why not go after all the other stores too
Secondly and you probably will not like this but---Back in the days of Jesus, people did not drink water. Everyone including the children drank wine. Most states have laws stating at what age a person becomes an adult and can purchase wine products for themselves. They need to be educated on all the drawbacks and hazards of drinking and use proper judgment but that is not the responsibility of Walmart nor any other store.

its not just walmarts fault teens are drinking beer, doing drugs, and stuff like that its other places too. So its not just walmart. Plus walmart has been doing that for a while. Just saying...

Walmart is simply supplying a demand. The fact that there are a billion ads and signs and information out there telling people it's a dumb idea to drink and drive and people still do it? That's not Walmart's fault that they don't have any common sense. Why blame Walmart? It's the teens who are stupid go talk to them.

Sure... the most profitable and largest corporation in history has all the power to do so; why not bring in new products to their already limitless product lines?

No one can stop this giant!!!

What's the big deal?

They're going to have to card people regardless of age (at least in my area that's the standard practice). They have to follow hours just as any other store does. They have glass doors blocking the aisle if it's outside of selling hours at the 6 Super Wal-Marts in my city that sell alcohol. Teenage drinking is a problem in EVERY county...not just yours. Prohibition didn't work in the 20's, what makes you think it would be any better now?

They want money - yeah it's all about profit. Wal-Mart is this country's biggest growing company....get used to them doing whatever they please.

They want more customers to shop there instead of going to another store to buy it - what business wouldn't? Last I checked, the local liquor stores close before selling hours are over, so 24 hour Wal-Mart's have the opportunity to pick up some of that business....even if they don't have the biggest selection.

Target sells it too - YES THEY DO! Go look. It's not only Wal-Mart...you gonna stop shopping at Target too now?

Besides this, what does it really matter? I'm so tired of people wanting to take everything away. Why can't you just grin and bear it and get over it as someone else said. Get off your soap box and live your life and stop meddling in the lives of others already. You (EXTREME emphasis here) are NOT going to convince Wal-Mart of anything but the fact that you're nosing your way into people's lives.
