An internal survey was recently conducted in my company that found blacks made, on average, 13.5% more than whites doing the same work, working the same hours, with the same experience. This was raised to management and the report was deleted. I was then called into a meeting and told to never speak of this study again. What is going on?

The survey was probably not scientific; there were probably lurking variables that made it go wrong. One: how would you feel if you were black and working at the company and heard about this? You might not ask for a raise or be pissed off that you didn't get one. Two: there's no way white people can complain. It's just chance, or affirmative action, and anyone who brings it up will be shut down. Three: I bet the president of the company is not black, and he's worried that someone might bring charges of discrimination against him.
I warn you that if the president of the company is black and the survey is scientific, you will look like the eternal white man trying to keep the black man down, if you actually inform the press or whatever. If you are black yourself, I commend you for your sense of civic duty.
The best way to find out and do something about it while keeping your job: gain the trust of upper management. Say nothing about the report. Finally, get access to Payroll and do your own survey.
Or you could whisper around the office and take your own survey. But that one will probably be skewed too, and will lose you your job. |

No company wants to be sued for discrimination. So they are probably covering it up in the hopes that no one has a hard-copy to take to their lawyer or the state labor department.

I dont think its the person who get the raise its the matter in how hard they do there job. There is more likley a black man to get a raise if he is doing his job than a white man who is sitting on his ***! to be honest!

That's rare. And I'd really like to see the link. I refuse to talke your word for it. Usually, it's the other way around about promotions, starting salaries and pay raises. However, if they don't want to hire more minorities, I can see a company paying the few that are there more so that they will stay and make the company more "diverse".
P.S. You should be fired. |
