Please tell me whats wrong with this I got layed off and i cant pay my bills Im just a Carpenter.?
In January, construction companies cut 27,000 jobs, with most of the decline concentrated in housing. The construction industry has lost a total of 284,000 jobs since its employment peak in September 2006.

Factories eliminated 28,000 positions in January, and have cut 269,000 jobs over the last 12 months.
Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday posted the largest annual profit by a U.S. company — $40.6 billion — as the world's biggest publicly traded oil company benefited from historic crude prices at year's end.

Same here in the U.K. Builders, carpenters, joiners can't get work but the oil companies have record profits. Why is this? Because of greed. Governments and industrial giants like British Petrolium, Esso, Exxon don't give a toot about you or me. All they want is power and money. We're at the bottom of the food chain and our sole purpose in life is to keep those at the top on top.

For every craftsman who is laid off, tax revenues drop, less money goes back into consumer companies and state dependency goes up. It's a loose-loose situation. Only Governments and huge corporations are so big, so fat, so greedy, so selfish, so S-T-U-P-I-D they think they can get away with it. So far, they are.

It's the same old story, my friend - the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer, only the gap is widening. I put my trust in God, not men, and even though I may not be rich in material possessions, I get to sleep at night because I know there are more important things in life than being financially well off. Mind you, it helps if you can pay the bills. I hope you find work real soon. Don't give up - keep on keeping on.

The problems is that contruction always has its ups and downs. While you were working, you didn;t save for the downs.

People will buy gasoline even when living in their old house.

It's a matter of must haves and nice to haves.

If you need a job, move to ND. We can't find enough people to employ and have to turn down work because of it.

Far as oil industry and construction, that's an easy one. When the world starts into a recession, a new home is the last thing they are building. However, you need gas to get from point a to b. Nothing you can do about it......besides getting a more economical vehicle.

sorry you lost your job. Hope something comes your way but I'm afraid that it may not be in capentry world.

Take Flight
The construction industry and the oil and gas industry are both cyclical industries. They have periods of time that are unbelievable followed by years of too much inventory in the face of economic weakness so they tank. The housing market tends to get his first before other markets feel it.

this is order of the day. I share your anguish.

Government should have some rationale to protect employees interest, while framing corporate exit policy. this is the result of free open global economy in capitalists world. similar to french, Russian, Chinese revolutions, the cycle have a turn-around. until such time, we should bear the burn.

I'm sorry about that. Have you tried going out on your own--probably places like Home Depot etc. could refer you or at least let you advertise there. If you've got finish carpenter skills such as cabinet making there are enough folks who are remodeling the homes they can't sell that I suspect you could do OK for yourself.
You could also see about offering some courses--not only do places like Home Depot put on a couple hour workshops, but I think the Y, some community colleges, etc. As it would be non-credit you don't need a college degree.
Good luck.
