A two part question:
1) Do you think we should slow down the dependency of China's imports and start buying more USA products made in the good old USA?
2) When American companies like Mattel Toys contract China to produce toys for our childred, shouldn't the Toy company be held responsible for the quality of the Product? |

Suddenly China has gone from a good manufacturer to a bad one, just about overnight? WTF?
The smoke and mirrors game is on. Mattel Toys probably had a contract with ONE company in China, and that company, under pressure from Mattel cut costs as much as they could to keep their margin afloat. Now Mattel Toys is paying the price for being jerks.
The same with pet food
Human food
Medicine
Which doesn't take into account the thousands of other products that doesn't get a whisper of attention by our government or the media.
Such as computer and their parts
Cars and their parts
Airplanes and their parts
Clothing and textiles
Heavy equipment and their parts
Trucks and their parts
Hell, the list is frigging endless.
so therefore, pragmatically thinking and with a hell of a lot of common sense your answers are as follows.
#1 No, we can not slow down the dependency of China imports. Where are we going to go? Ourselves? Nope, we'll just be shooting ourselves in the head and bringing our transportation system to a grinding halt and closing down places like Wal-Mart to Macy's.
#2 Yes, the manufactures here need to be held accountable for everything that hits these shores. Which means having a firm hand in making sure good employment practices are adhered too.

China is barely opening up to the world markets with their currency,and attempt at Free Enterprise in a communist society. It's natural that Chinese manufacturers and distributors try biting off more than they can chew when it comes to product safety and quality.
The Chinese need their version of Underwriters Laboratories and the Fair Labeling Act to not only do tests on the quality of food and products made there BEFORE they leave the country. |

Products made in China are NOT getting out of hand.
1) NO, we should not slow down China imports.
USA toy companies are under direct competition with chinese toy manufacturers. If the toys were made here, they would be too expensive and Americans would happily buy the ones made by foreign countries. Over time, the american toy company will go out of business and we lose.
2) YES, the toy company should be held responsible for the quality.
The quality of the product is determined by the toy company...not where it is produced. China makes tons of high quality stuff with very very low margin rates. This is the 21st century. China is a world class operation that offers high quality precision at very low cost and they make EVERYTHING. Anything from toys to clothes to computers. They do it cheaper and better. The problem is that people keep squeezing china to do it cheap. I don't think that a US manufacturing plant would be able to do the same at even 5 times the cost. Not with minimum wage in effect, not with lazy teenage high schoolers doing the work. In china, many toys are made by starving people looking for a chance to feed their families. But again, the quality comes from the cost and the US companies are trying to save every little penny to make a quick buck. After all, they don't figure that kids would be too harsh to make a decision on the final product. |
