Professionalism in the workplace? When a female boss flirts with some of the men under her?
1. When women flirt it is a lot more obvious then men ( like running hand through hair ,biting lips etc)
2. would this behaviour be considered as unprofessional as female flirting is very noticable , much more then when a man flirts

Hello,

ANS: A boss (who is female) should know how to make & maintain clear boundaries around her employee's or staff under her supervision.

**That should apply at all times in her professional capacity, it doesnt mean she cannot be human, show warmth or understanding for her staff, it doesnt mean she cannot have a laugh or enjoy a joke with staff but she should maintain behaviour that is appropraite to the office and work being carried out.

**To much flirting, or behaviour that is obviously flirtatous especially to male staff would in my opinion go down like a lead balloon with the rest of the female staff employed in the same dept or office.

Flirting would be inappropriate to her role as a manager or boss, would give out confused or mixed messages to staff. Might be used as a power trip! or ego trip! for someone who is actually feeling insecure as a boss, or lacks enough experience as a boss to deal with men correctly in the work place. i.e. uses flirting inappropriately to manipulate staff to get work done when its not required.

**Could be that this boss just has a form of favouritism & shows it through flirtatous behaviour.

**YES! for a female boss to use flirtatous behaviour when its not required could definately be construed as unprofessional.

Of course it is unprofessional but it is relatively common if you work for a woman. If you are uncomfortable I would recommend finding a new job, if it is more extensive than what you describe you may consider a lawsuit but most likely would be a waste of time, not to mention a tremendous black mark on your future employment prospects.

Is your company employing? LOL

No, sorry. Yes, indeed it is very unprofessional. I mean you cannot stop anyone from liking someone, even your employee. Diplomacy is here the key. It is noone's business(private) and it is not forbidden to date your employee. However if they are not doing this diplomatically, and she, as you say is flirting with others, then that is crazy!

Set her up on a date, with the others she flirts with. LOL, you invite her and then all your colleagues "happen to be" in the same restaurant on the same night!

I think she will then get the message, but maybe you will be then be out of a job, but she cannot sack all or you..LOL! Let me know what happens!

Good luck!

Reply to dude!
No, I did not take your issue lightly or trivially, not at all, but I see just the funny side of life. Good luck... if you like her, go for her, why do you need to question your instincts?

Good luck

Unfortunately for you, flirting is in the eye of the beholder. Men think if you drop a pencil and bend over to pick it up, you want them. Women on the other hand don't usually take it so seriously. Some of us are born flirts, we flirt with everyone old and young, flirting is harmless and can make someones day!

laura21804
either is unprofessional but a women flirting is more obvious and is taking advantage of her posistion and aauthoity

Er, I think most people do it subconciously, you can't tell when you're doing it. It would be unprofessional if it was done on purpose, but the traits you've mentioned are usually just 'how the person is'
