Question about wal-mart?
Hi, Im an wal-mart employee and i accidentally dropped a tv, not from high point, but it kind of fell on its side from an L cart, and customer didn't want it, there are no scratches/dents/or defects noticeable, but took it to claims and gave them a new one. Im only asking this because no managements were to be found for whole 30 mins, and it was time for me to go. Now my question is

DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT TV?
Additional Details
I left 1 hour ago, 30 minutes before that no management were to be found, i just called again no one is there.

no

No employees don't have to pay for accidents. There might be other discipline, especially for not finding a manager.

no. I doubt it.

thats illegal for an employer to charge and employee for damages, contact the labor dept of your state for your rights.

Ice
No. Broken items like this are a common business expense and should be covered by the store, not you.

Talk to management ASAP and let them know about this unfortunate and unintentional accident, just so you can be upfront about it.

The store will return it to the manufacturer.

no, but it does seem like you did not use proper lifting procedures, also, you know you should have waited for a manager, if you went over your scheduled leave time, you could have filled out a time adjustment slip, once you made management aware of the situation.

butterfliesRfree
I seriously doubt they'd make you pay for it -- it was an accident. They're insured - big time.

you might

I do not think so.

If claims is where they take broken stuff then you better get it out of there and pretend like it's not broken. Someone will buy it then return it under warranty if it is broken.

Kimmy-j
no, even if it was broken you wouldn't have to. i'm in australia but i think the laws are the same, i studied hospitality law and the truth is even if you're a customer and you brake something you don't have to pay for it, if the shop has insurance (which it will cause you need it to run a business) then the insurance will cover it. in the same respect i stuffed up at work and cost my boss $250, i didn't have to pay him but i respected my boss and it was my mistake i decided to give him the money

reel626
First of all I would like to say your a pretty honest employee to go through the effort of informing someone of what had happened. For you to keep calling for management about the situation is unnecessary. They have people that work for them that process damaged items. If you turned it into claims, wipe your hands of it. On the other hand you sound like you might have done something against policy and scared of the consequences. The truth will set you free.

Rachael in Colorado
that's what liability insurance is for, employees make mistakes, and it's required by laws that employers of over 50 people hold insurance...don't sweat it, just don't do it again :)

kt
if you do ask if you can keep it... I'm not trying to be insensitive just if you paid for it and its fine... keep it or sell it on eBay or something.

NOOO WAY! I think it was an accident.... just tell the manager and if he REALLY thinks you shouuld pay for it..then just pay the price! I would make sure thaat its really not broken before selling it to another customer though!!!
I hope everything works out for you!! GOOOD LUCK!!!..hope this helps :) :)!!...

trippystemny
I was a walmart employee for a little over a year, in Electronics for about 8 months... and no, I don't think you'll have to pay for it. Just don't mention it.

That will be question for management. Did they tell you when you were hired, that you break it , you buy it? You should not have to pay for it.

Tuggamamma

NO, they have insurance. Though they could write you up and give you the option of paying to get out of that!

AlwaysDriven
If they inspect it and find out it's broken, and then find out you're the one that dropped it.
