Reno M | Question to shoppers: Do you think “customer service” has gone downhill? |
Is it just me, or does it seem that whenever you shop, rude and unprofessional service is the norm nowadays? |

Yes, I have noticed a lot of things have changed since I worked in retail. I think some of it is the low pay for all the work. I also believe alot of it has to do with the fact that the customers are cranky, or the kids are left to run around like animals. And after awhile it makes the employees cranky. I can't say that I blame them for that. I get cranky when I see how kids are behaving and nothing is being done. |

Customer service is no such thing these days. They either are rude or talk about me behind my back. I have seen the tellers did it when my account was hacked into, but one of the tellers (the one that didn't handle me) thought I was stupid on not knowing how to use an ATm. It was rude and inconsiderate. |

In some cases, I think customer service is non-existant. Did you ever go into a Kmart and find one cash register, out of 15, to be open? |

Sure it has gone downhill in many organizations. But, as always you get what you pay for. Part of the problem is the American consumer who continually demands lower prices. Customer service has a cost. Sellers want to make a profit. Lower prices mean less room for profit and the seller will try to cut costs. Quality and customer service usually suffer. You can easily get great customer service from higher end sellers. All this, however, does not excuse rudeness on the part of a store employee. What it all comes down to is this question:
Who benefits from a $13 refrigerator? |

There are some places where they still strive to provide excellent customer service but then there are the companies who do not care about customer service and just want to treat their customers like "next please". I know personally I will not go somewhere unless it has good customer service, I will even pay more for the customer service because I know that the staff is trained and not just thrown into the mix and doesn't know what I am talking about when I ask a simple question. |

omg yes! my dad once told me this story! its true! a RICH man didn't feel that well so he didnt want to shave, or do anything really so he looked really bad. he went into his bank (where he keeps his money not HIS bank) but yes, and they treated him terribly because of how he looked. the next day he felt better and wore his rich clothes and looked really rich and everyone was nice and caring towards him. he took out all his money that day. the bank manager asked him why and he said yesterday i came in looking bad and you didnt make me feel welcome. this day i come in looking fabulous and you treat me well. that is not how it should be. and yes, i mean i'll be calling some employee and they are rude, slow, and just dont care about me-- come on people! do you want us to pay or not! |

Customer Service is a cost center for mass retailers. So such service is kept to minimum. That's why in places such as Walmart, you hardly have any customer service to help you find things. The Return dept is also a necessary evil to the stores because in America, all stores have Return services. But they just want it over with.
If you go to pricey places where they have heft margin and you have big wallets, service quality is definitely there. |
