People of all ages go to Starbucks. I have worked there for two years (at three different stores). I have seen people feeding their babies frappuccino.

From the very young, to the very old. Starbucks' target is to be the "third place" (official Star-speak) after home and work (or school). They want you to think of it as a sort of cooler and more relaxing home away from home where you can escape but still enjoy comforting things like warm drinks, usually decent music, and America's favorite drugs (sugar and caffeine).

Employees are referred to as "partners" in Star-speak. Starting wages differ from region to region and state to state. Again, I am coming up on my two year and I make $9 per hour plus tips. Every six months we go up for a performance review and will receive a raise (or not) based on that. My last raise was about $.40, I think. Tips at my different stores have ranged from $.80 per hour extra to $3.00 extra per hour. Managers and Assistant Managers do no share our tips because they are on salary. I have heard an approximation of what an ASM would make hourly--$14. Part-time employees accrue vacation hours and also stock options without having to put out any extra effort. We also get to take home a free pound of coffee or box of tea per week. There is a 30% partner discount on all merchandise, food, and beverages, regardless of which store you go to. This excludes "licensed stores" which are those in airports and grocery stores.

The best thing to do is to go to their shop, ask to see the manager as a favor and hear it from the horse's mouth.
