..or the fact that we're in apparently such a big recession, did the uk and usa have elaborate firework displays costing, am sure thousands/millions of pounds when we're so badly off..!?!? it doesn't seem to make sense.. who paid for it all?!?!
To me, there are still ludicrous things happening that if we are that badly off shouldn't be!!
Money is being wasted and us the general public (not including anyone who is in entertainment..boxers/singers..) are paying the price for the governments/banks etc's problem?!
Like i've never gotten a loan, worked after finishing college, earnt my own way and now paying to go to uni ... but i am in the end, paying for someone else's mistake.

We are indeed paying for someone else's mistakes. Actually mistakes is putting it lightly, orchestrated gross negligence by the banks is a little more accurate.
Within the last couple of years the Uk banks were reporting profits of over £10 billion. So where is it? Did those profits ever really exist? Or is it false accounting and fraud on a massive scale?
I find it alarming that despite the immense damage the banks have caused to this nation and we will be paying for it for years to come, that no one is being brought to task over it. |

203. You are absolutely correct. Its those US investment bankers etc who throw good and prudent banking practices to the wind in order to make hefty profits. As a matter of fact I did ask some younger bankers how they can make billions of pounds when during my banking days we were able to make millions not billions. Their replies were that we were too conservative and out of date bankers. Now the truth has come out. A prudent and honest banker is one who is conservative and strictly adhered to good lending practices. And prudent bankers believe in doing their business:"in the ordinary cause of our business". |

You must realise that Brown thinks he knows how to spend your money better than you! That is called Socialism!
When he completely cocks it up - it is the Yanks fault! He meanwhile goes on to save the world and gets even more delusional!
Unfortunately Cameron cannot say what is needed to be done as it will cost him votes, so he won't get elected! So as getting elected is his only concern he keeps quiet.
Until we can separate voting from decison making we will continue to go down the pan! And you like me and everyone else will pay for it! |

You have now got that off your chest and you must feel better for it. I feel exactly the same about such wastage. I have always thought that fireworks were a total waste of money and at this time when we are all expected to pay more and more for less efficient services the money spent on the fireworks in the UK could have been better spent. Congestion charge was just another tax and the cost for goods deliveries etc was just passed on to the customer. Up goes the prices which then drags a further lump into the VAT collections.
