Okay, I'm 17 female..Year 12..I've recently been applying for casual work..I've applied literally everywhere. I've seen managers personally, and been friendly. I had 1 year experience as a cashier/cook at Mcdonalds, and listed that as my experience....
I heard back from Mcdonalds last week and went to an interview. Because I had experience I figured they'd hire me right away. He said he had to do a reference check and would get back to me in 2 days time. I waited for a call........instead I got an email saying 'we have identified another applicant who better meets our needs at this time.'
I don't understand....I've had experience....
Why did they reject me?
Is it possible my old employer said bad things about me? I can't think why....I made a few mistakes working there. But I was always punctual, polite, worked hard.........Why did they reject me?
Doesn't make any sense, since I've worked for Mcdonalds before, and they usually hire a number of people anyway.......... |

Ask them to add your name to a future list. Doing that will get you a job there eventually.
There's countless reasons of why they didn't choose you. Someone could have applied before you, someone may have a friend/daughter/relative who wanted a job, a former employee may have returned, etc.
You applied a week ago at McDonalds but there will have been people who applied several weeks ago (or possibly longer) and have been waiting for their turn. That place gets tons of applications... chances are he didn't actually do a reference check because there were people infront of you who he's already checked out. |

Don't be depressed! They probably hired a friend, or something silly like that...
I highly doubt your previous employer would have given you a negative review if you worked hard, didn't miss a lot of work, etc. Is that person still working there? Could be that they weren't able to track down your reference...

I think you're reading too much into this. It's probably just a case that whoever they hired had more experience than you. Or perhaps the other person was willing/able to work more convenient hours than you. It happens, try again later. Doing a reference check suggests your area has higher unemployment, allowing the employers to be more particular.
Where i live as long as the axe you murdered someone with was wiped off you'd get a job, but that's not the case elsewhere. |

You never know. It is possible that you were a good candidate, but someone really good just came along :). Maybe they only needed 1 person and 15 interviewed.
Don't stress, there is a ton of part time entry level work available for highschool students. Try retail, starbucks, borders, waitress etc. |

Maybe they found someone who really did better meet their needs. Or maybe they thought you were over qualified and might leave if you were offered a better job elsewhere. |

Legally your manager wouldn't have said anything directly bad about you and you say that you had no bad behavior to report anyway. I doupt that is it. Most likely they stopped needing someone. The emails they usually send out are just generic. Don't get to down about it. Everybody gets rejected from jobs for no explainable reason. That just means you were meant to work somewhere else. So keep trying! |
