MC | Relocation to another town..........? |
When an employer asks a potential employee to relocate for the companies benefit who pays the relocation fees, double rentals while house is sold and a new one purchased etc? What is the general accepted norm in the UK business community for such a move? Additional Details Yes, it is for a key worker who is uniquely qualified for the position. Relocation involves selling and buying property, potential loss on sale of house, loss of partner income, more expensive house on other end. Forfeit of 6months sports club membership etc. |

Every company is different and also depends how high up the corp ladder u are...generally the higher u are the more they are willing to pay that is all bills involved with the move...lower down the ladder...they tend to choose and pick what they want to pay for....try for everything.... |

It is normal for your employer to pay all relocation fees, i.e. solicitors bills, removal company and rented accomodation in the new town whilst your house is being sold. Basically you shouldn't have to pay out for anything that you don't at the moment. However, every employer is different so please make sure you have everything in writing, and show it to your solicitor. |

When you apply for a job with a Company, it's NOT their concern where you decide to live ... however, if they want to employ you, it's quite possible that some sort of moving assistance could be offered ...
So the quick answer is ... it's open to negotiation (just like your Salary Package).
Each Company decides themselves ... last place I worked at decided to relocate and offered everyone new jobs at the new location .. some staff were offered a Relocation Allowance (up to £8000) others were offered nothing except "move or Redundancy" ... |

Usually employer will pay for relocation, if they have asked you to relocate. On the other hand, if they have given you an option that you want a job with the company you have to relocate at your own expense, then it is up to you. |

There's no real accepted "norm." Depends how far the move is, whether you are a key employee (they will pay the key workers)
Firstly, check your terms and conditions of employment, does it state where you are working? If they don't take you you will probably be entitled to redundancy payments. Sorry can't be more help than that without more information. |
