Kathryn P | Salary employees, do you feel used by your employer? |
Does anyone live in a place where they are not over-worked hours for their salary? If you don't get paid OT, but are still expected to work 80 hours a week, do you get any form of compensation for your efforts, or do you have employers who tell you that you work salary and they can work you 24 hours a day if they want to? Additional Details I guess I am not understood. I am a work-a-holic and would give 24 hours a day every day with no complaints if the job did not then expect that same degree every day of work. As advised, I quit that job over a year ago, and found a better fit for me.
when a company makes you go out of town for a week while you have bronchitis and a fever and cannot breathe and when you ask for some recoup time when the work is over, you could certainly expect to get it, especially when you have over 200 hours of accrued sick time because you are NEVER sick.
When I get a nasty attitude, telling me they can work me like a dog and I get no compensation for it, it's like saying "Your my slave, and you will work the hours I say, and smile about it"
Like they have you under control.
But, as some of you said, I did quit the job when I stopped being appreciated for what I did give them. |

Employment is a mutually advantageous agreement. If the terms of the agreement (explicit or implied) are no longer advantageous to you, you should move to a job that is. |

I'm salary. I typically work just 40 hours per week. There have been a few times when I've worked a few extra hours, but not much. When I do, I don't mind. My company pays me a fair wage and its pretty rare that I have to put in extra hours.
It doesn't bother me when I work a few extra hours without pay. I'd be upset (and I'd be looking for a new job) if they wanted me to work OT all the time. |

I did, but I worked for a couple people at the same time. They would always give me things to do last minute and me being to nice I did them and stayed extra and then it became habit for them. It go so bad they just used me and never gave me a raise even though I worked my butt off. So I quit! |

I'm an attorney. Long hours go with the territory and you work until you complete what has to be done. It's a function of professionalism. |
